RAF LICHFIELD ASSOCIATION REUNION 1999

On Friday 3rd September 1999 the Association held their 9th Reunion at Wintertons Auction Centre opposite the old Guardroom and Members were greeted by a Guard of Honour from the 1206 (Mercian) Air Training Corps Squadron based in Lichfield. 110 members attended who came from all Units and included Harry Woodhams (27 O.T.U.) from Australia. A most enjoyable evening for members to meet old friends.

The following morning a Service was held in Lichfield Cathedral, an unforgettable experience. We then visited Fradley Church and poppies were laid on all the graves of those who died whilst serving at RAF Lichfield then Lawrie Walford showed us the proposed site of the Memorial. Lunch was taken at the RBL Club at Alrewas followed by a visit to the airfield and a conducted tour of the hangar area now owned by the Lucas Company. Our thanks to Geoff Gregory and his fellow Guides not forgetting the ladies of the canteen who served refreshments, events concluded with a visit to the National Arboretum.
